Professor Douglas K. Hartman from Michigan State University and Professor Dilek Altun, Dean of the Faculty of Education at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, delivered a joint lecture titled “Designing Enhanced Professional Development: Empowering University Teachers with Artificial Intelligence” at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology, Baku State University (BSU).

In his address, Professor Hartman highlighted that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education is driving transformative changes in the modern learning environment. He emphasized that AI offers vast potential to enhance the quality of education and innovate teaching methodologies. According to him, AI enables students to assess their own discussions based on key criteria such as factual accuracy, depth of understanding, appropriate use of terminology, active listening, and constructive argumentation.

Professor Dilek Altun focused on the effects of artificial intelligence on preschool and school-aged children. She discussed both the positive and negative influences, noting that certain educational games can foster beneficial character traits. She underlined the importance of considering a child's age when selecting digital games. Professor Altun also pointed out the growing interest among young children in e-books and audiobooks, stressing the role of parents in choosing age-appropriate and engaging genres.

The lecture concluded with a Q&A session, during which the speakers responded to questions from students.
