Seminar at BSU Focuses on School Libraries and Information Literacy
A scientific seminar titled “School Libraries and Information Literacy” was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University.
At the seminar, Ainur Aleskerova, a master’s student of the Department of Library and Information Resource Management at BSU, delivered a presentation on the role of school libraries in the modern educational process.
In her presentation, the student discussed the history of school libraries, their stages of development, and their importance in education. She noted that the Law “On Library Work” defines libraries as social institutions performing scientific, educational, pedagogical, cultural, and informational functions.
The presentation also highlighted the importance of information literacy, emphasizing its role in developing students’ abilities to search for, evaluate, and effectively use information. It was noted that school libraries play a significant role in strengthening students’ critical thinking, encouraging independent learning, and improving academic performance.
The study examined key issues such as the organization of school libraries in line with the demands of the modern information society, the enrichment of library collections with digital resources, the continuous development of students’ information-search skills, and the effective management of library information resources.
The seminar concluded with discussions and an exchange of views among participants.
