Seminar on Gender Equality Held at BSU
A scientific seminar titled “Gender Equality: Problems and Prospects” was held at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology of Baku State University (BSU).
The seminar featured a presentation by Rena Ibragimbekova, Head of the Department of Gender and Applied Psychology at BSU. The event was opened by Rovshan Javadov, Dean of the Faculty, who highlighted the importance of addressing gender issues from multiple perspectives in the modern era. He emphasized that gender equality remains relevant across all spheres of society.
In her presentation, Rena Ibragimbekova noted that gender equality is an integral component of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She stressed its crucial role in promoting peace, security, quality education, and social welfare. Particular attention was given to the importance of increasing women’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions.
According to the speaker, women’s involvement in peacekeeping operations contributes to more effective communication with local communities in conflict zones, fosters an atmosphere of trust, and supports the establishment of sustainable peace. She also discussed global experience and the level of women’s representation in law enforcement and security agencies.
Rena Ibragimbekova emphasized that in recent years, the number of women working in this field in Azerbaijan has increased, with women successfully serving in various positions within the law enforcement system.
