Seminar on “The Semantics of the City of Shusha” Held at BSU
A scientific seminar titled “The Semantics of the City of Shusha” was held at the Faculty of History of Baku State University.
Opening the event, Deputy Dean Kamala Najafova highlighted the importance of 2026 being declared the Year of Urban Development and Architecture and emphasized the scientific significance of studying cities from historical and anthropological perspectives.
During the seminar, Hijran Makhmudova, lecturer at the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography and Doctor of Philosophy in History, delivered a presentation on the historical, cultural, and anthropological features of Shusha. She spoke about the city’s architectural structure, neighborhoods, daily life, and socio-cultural environment, while also presenting examples of vandalism committed against Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage during the occupation.
The seminar also emphasized the importance of the liberation of Shusha and ongoing restoration efforts aimed at preserving the city’s historical and cultural heritage.
