Space Weather Forecast for the Holidays

30/12/2025

The Department of Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU) has released its space weather forecast for the holiday period.

According to the department, solar activity is currently at a moderate level. Although M-class solar flares (R1–R2), which can cause minor disturbances in radio signal propagation, have been observed on the Sun’s surface, they are not expected to have any impact on Earth. No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been detected, and the probability of flares of other classes remains very low.

The geomagnetic activity index (Kp), which reflects the intensity of geomagnetic storms, is expected to remain low from 31 December through 7 January, ranging between 1 and 4. This indicates that Earth’s geomagnetic field will stay at background levels throughout the holiday period.
