"Sustainable Development Goals Week" at BSU: Focus on Combating Climate Change

As part of the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Week,” Baku State University (BSU) organized an event dedicated to the theme “Combating Climate Change.” The event took place at the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Deputy Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service, Gulnara Abbasova, delivered a presentation on Azerbaijan’s diverse climatic zones. She emphasized the role of the National Hydrometeorological Service in implementing state policy in the fields of hydrometeorology, climatology, and atmospheric sciences. Abbasova highlighted the agency’s work in data collection, analysis, storage, and dissemination, as well as its role in metrology, standardization, and environmental monitoring.

Chairman of the BSU Student Trade Union Committee, Zohrab Javadzade, underscored the importance of fostering environmental awareness among youth, emphasizing that it is a critical factor for achieving sustainable development.

Following the speeches, employees of the National Hydrometeorological Service — Roya Efendiyeva, Gasan Musayev, Gulshad Mamedova, and Ruslan Gadirov — also addressed the participants, sharing insights into their respective areas of expertise.

As part of the visit, students were given a tour of the Service’s Situation Center, where they observed how weather conditions are monitored and forecasts are generated in real time.
