Uludağ University Professor Delivers Seminar at BSU
A scientific seminar titled “Experimental Models of Hypothyroidism” was held at the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University (BSU), featuring Professor Sibel Taş from Uludağ University in Bursa, Türkiye.
Professor Taş began the seminar by providing an overview of hypothyroidism, a condition caused by insufficient activity of the thyroid gland. She explained that hypothyroidism can lead to a range of health issues, including slowed metabolism, fatigue, edema, depression, impaired liver function, and musculoskeletal complications.
The presentation covered the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying hypothyroidism and introduced a variety of experimental models used to study the condition. Professor Taş highlighted the significance of dietary, surgical, pharmacological, genetic, radioactive, and immunological approaches for inducing hypothyroidism in experimental settings. She also emphasized that thyroid hormone deficiency affects multiple organs and systems, resulting in diverse morphological and clinical manifestations.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Professor Taş offered guidance to researchers working in the field of hypothyroidism on selecting appropriate experimental models and interpreting laboratory data.
