World Day of the Turkic Language Family Celebrated at BSU

15/12/2025

World Day of the Turkic Language Family was marked at Baku State University (BSU). Speaking at the event, Aydan Handan, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, recalled that December 15 was adopted as the International Day of the Turkic Language following a proposal made at UNESCO’s 43rd session in Samarkand in 2025.

She emphasized that unity among Turkic peoples is based not only on shared cultural and historical ties, but also on active political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation through organizations such as the Organization of Turkic States, the Turkic Academy, and TURKSOY.

The event also featured remarks by Gökhan Seyhan, Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Baku, and a presentation by Professor Şükrü Haluk Akalın of Hacettepe University (Türkiye) titled “New Horizons for the Turkic Language Family.”

The program concluded with a question-and-answer session.
